Please Help Iliana in Her Fight Against Leukemia
At the end of September Tommy and Brianna Bourlogiannis’ 8 month old daughter Iliana was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). As Iliana’s family is grappling with her diagnosis, it was quickly determined that Brianna is no longer be able to work as she stays by Iliana’s side in the hospital while undergoing treatment. Iliana has begun chemotherapy daily and will remain at Connecticut Children’s Hospital while receiving treatments, which will be at least a 6 month or longer journey – with then full time care and treatment once she is able to go home.
As they navigate coping with her diagnosis, being in the hospital full time, and Tommy’s ability to return to work, they also have their 2 year old son Yanni at home being cared for mostly by his Yiayia (grandmother). They will be facing medical bills not covered by insurance, living expenses, and unexpected child care expenses for Yanni while both of his parents are at the hospital staying by Iliana’s side.
The emotional and financial stress that they are experiencing and will experience for the next 6-12 months (and beyond) is indescribable. No parent ever wants to hear the diagnosis of childhood Leukemia and we want to help ease their financial worries, allowing them to fully focus on Iliana’s care and treatment needed to beat this disease!
